Sharing Google Drive Files for a Class Assignment

For some assignments instructors may recommend providing a link to a file for your class instead of uploading into moodle directly. This may be because the file size upload limit in moodle at Augsburg is 90 MB. Assignments involving video can surpass this limit if the video is long enough. You can see if the file size is too large to upload. Ctrl-click the file and choose "Get Info..." on a Mac and "Properties" in Windows. If it is too large, using a link to a file in a cloud storage solution like Google Drive may be an approriate solution.

  1. Enter WebMail through Inside Augsburg. Then click on the 9 dot "box" icon and select "Drive."

  2. Click on the upload button to the right of the "Create" button and choose "Files..."

  3. Select the file from your computer to begin the upload to your Google Drive. You will see a progress bar of this process in the lower right corner of the page. Once the upload is complete, click "Share" for the file in the upload status window.

  4. In Sharing settings, click "Change...". Change the file's visibility options from "Private" to "People at Augsburg with the link", then click "Save".

  5. Copy the "Link to share" provided to use in your class submission, then click "Done".

  6. Provide the link from the previous step in your submission. Learn how to create a link in the moodle text editor. Access will be given only to people with AugNet accounts that have this link.
