Luther Seminary - Augsburg PA Classrooms
Posted by Laura Ledray on 10 October 2018 12:53 PM

Luther Seminary IT student workers are in charge of assisting the Augsburg PA faculty if they are experiencing classroom issues. There are 3 classroom areas on the Luther Seminary campus.

Northwestern Classrooms 230 & 231

On the 2nd floor of NW, there are 2 classrooms across from Sandy Fevig's office. These have Augsburg pictures on the walls, so they are easy to identify. The IT keys will get you in to these rooms if you use the NW key.

Logging In to the Classroom Computer/An Augsburg-Issued Laptop

The classroom computer is on a cart at the front of the classroom. Make sure the ethernet cable is plugged in to the wall and to the back of the computer.

Novell Login Screen

1. On the login screen, make sure faculty/students are logging in to Novell (this has a red N icon on it).
2. Type in the username, but keep the password section blank. (Luther Seminary IT students cannot log in, it has to be someone with an Augsburg login).
3. Under login, you will see something that says "Show Advanced Options". Click on it.
4. A window will appear. Under Context, open the drop down menu and choose your department. Make sure Tree says "Augsburg". If it lets you select a Server, then choose "orgs". Hit apply.
5. Type in your password and click Login.
*If this does not work, then try another port on the wall for the ethernet cable, and repeating steps 1-5. If it is still not working, proceed to the next set of instructions.

Computer Only Login Screen

1. On the login screen, switch from the Novell login to the "Computer Only" login option. This will be in white under the login boxes.

2. It will switch the login screen to an orange flower instead of the Novell login. Have the user type in AD\"username" and their password. Example Username: AD\ledray.

*If the AD\ does not work, try having them login by just typing in their username without the AD\ in front of it.

3. Hit Login.

4. Once the user is logged in, have them Right-click on the red N icon in the taskbar in the bottom right corner of the desktop.

5. From the window that appears, click on Novell Login at the top.

6. Have the user type in their username & password and hit okay. This SHOULD connect them to the Augsburg network drives.

To see the network drives, they should click on the folder icon and look under My Computer/This PC. If they can click on a network drive and get to their files, then they are good to go.

Using the Classroom Computer or Personal Laptop with the Projectors

Personal Laptop

If a user wants to use their personal laptop with the projectors, then they will need to do the following:

1. Use the HDMI cable and corresponding adapters on the cart to plug in the laptop.

2. Go to the white wall panel. Turn Display to ON.

3. Press the LAPTOP button.

4. Done.

*If this fails, try any of the other buttons on the wall panel to see if those work. PC or AUX. The panel configuration could be off, so doing this may solve the issue. If one of these buttons works but not the LAPTOP one, then let Laura/John know by creating a ticket.

Classroom Computer

1. Make sure the classroom computer is turned on and logged in.

2. Go to the white wall panel. Turn Display to ON.

3. Press the PC button.

4. Done.

Clicker

The clicker in these classrooms has an ON/OFF switch on the side. When you turn it to ON, the front buttons will light up. If that does not happen, the batteries could be dead. The clicker USB has to be plugged in to the computer being used first to work. Make sure that is the case before replacing the batteries.

If the USB gets lost, the entire clicker needs to be replaced, since they are paired to each individual clicker.

Projectors

There are 2 projectors in each classroom, facing opposite directions.

To turn them on, use the white wall panel and press ON under Display

Troubleshooting Steps

If the projectors are not turning on, or if just one is, do the following:

1. Try turning the Display setting to OFF from the wall panel. Wait a couple of minutes, then switch it to ON again.

2. If that did not work, then look at the projector. Make sure the ON and Standby buttons are blue, not orange/red. If they are, turn the Display to OFF on the wall panel. Then get up on a table, unplug the projector after its completely powered down. Then plug it in to the other electrical outlet plug and try powering it on from the wall again.

3. Check to see if the temp or bulb lights are on red/orange. If they are, it means it is burnt out. Let Laura/John know by creating a ticket.

Microphones

There are 2 mics on a charger in NW 230. These are lapel mics. Press the middle button down to turn them on-it will turn green. Press & hold the middle button for 2 seconds to turn the mic to orange, then it will turn to red. It is off when it is red, on when it is green.

OCC 8 Classroom

Logging In to the Classroom Computer/An Augsburg-issued Laptop

There is not a classroom computer in this location, but there are Augsburg laptops that students sometimes use, or faculty use their laptops.

Novell Login Screen

1. On the login screen, make sure faculty/students are logging in to Novell (this has a red N icon on it).
2. Type in the username, but keep the password section blank. (Luther Seminary IT students cannot log in, it has to be someone with an Augsburg login).

Classroom TV

The TV at the front of the classroom is used to display powerpoints, videos, etc. There is an HDMI cable that people can use to plug in to it. Use the TV remote or the buttons on the side of the TV to change the input if the laptop screen is not displaying on the TV. You may also need to adjust the display settings on the laptop to Extend or Duplicate. Google "how to duplicate displays for Windows 7" etc to find these instructions.
