Creating a web link to a file you want to share (Faculty/Staff/Students)

Sometimes you may have a file you want to share that is too large to attach to an email.  In that case, you can save the file in your www folder and then email a link to the file instead. Follow these steps:

  1. Choose a nicely-formatted name for your file.

Web links don't handle spaces well, so name your file something that doesn't use spaces.  Web links are also case-sensitive, so take note of which letters are capitalized and which ones are not.

    Good choices:
    RouteInfo.PDF
    Meeting_Minutes.docx

    Poor choices:
    Route Info.PDF
    FiLe To ShArE.doc

  2. Save the file in your www folder, using the name you chose.  If you are not familiar with this process, instructions can be found at this link: http://go.augsburg.edu/wwwupload

  3. Email the link to the file.

The link will be in the following format.  Replace "username" with your actual AugNet username, and "FileName.EXT" with the actual name of your file from step 1.

    http://web.augsburg.edu/~username/FileName.EXT

It is very important that you include the entire filename, including the letters after the dot at the end (like, .PDF, .docx, etc).  It's a good idea to copy and paste the link into a web
