Using Remote Desktop Connection for Windows and Mac (Faculty/Staff)

Remote Desktop is available to people with Augsburg College accounts who need access to a windows application from off-campus. rdp.augsburg.edu hosts these applications through Microsoft Remote Desktop Services. This article covers how to connect rdp.augsburg.edu from both a Mac and a Windows PC. To connect to rdp.augsburg.edu you'll need a broadband internet connection.

Connect to RDP from Mac OS X using Microsoft Remote Desktop

Note: If you do not have the Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac OS X you can download it from the Mac App Store:

 Manually configure your Mac client to connect to rdp.augsburg.edu:

  1. Browse to Macintosh HD > Applications > Microsoft Remote Desktop.

  2. Enter rdp.augsburg.edu into the Computer field.



  3. Double Click the Augsburg Remote Desktop Server connection.

  4. If will be prompted for a username, password and domain just leave these blank and click OK.



  5. You may receive a warning dialog that "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified.  Do you want to connect anyway?" That's just fine. Click Connect.



  6. When you see the "Log on to Novell Network" screen login with your usual AugNet username and password.

 

Connect to RDP from a Windows PC (Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7):

Manually configure your client to connect to rdp.augsburg.edu:
  1. From the Windows Start Menu, choose Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection

  2. Enter rdp.augsburg.edu into the Computer field.

  3. Click the downward-pointing arrow next to Show Options at the bottom left corner.

  4. Choose the Advanced tab at the top.

  5. In the section titled "Connect from anywhere" click on the Settings... button.

  6. Choose the selection circle next to "Use these RD Gateway server settings:"    For the Server Name, enter gateway.augsburg.edu .  Set the Logon Method to "Ask for password".

  7. At the bottom of the window, check the box for "Use my RD Gateway credentials for the remote computer".

  8. Click the OK button to close the Gateway window.

  9. Go back to the General tab.

  10. Choose Connect.  If prompted for a username and password, enter your AugNet login.  You may need to add an AD\ in front of your username, like this: AD\username

  11. You may receive a warning dialog that "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified.  Do you want to connect anyway?" Choose Connect.



  12. Enter your Augsburg username and password. Choose the Login Arrow to begin your session.
